The recipe
Coconut chutney is a South Indian chutney used everyday with dishes such as dosas, idli and vada. We had this many times and it’s a really fresh accompaniment which goes well with sambar and the various masalas served with dosas.Ingredients
- 75g fresh coconut, finely grated
- 1 small green chilli, finely chopped
- 1 very small red onion or shallot, finely chopped
- 15g fresh ginger, finely chopped
- ¼ tsp salt
Method
Step 1
Blend all of the ingredients into a coarse paste, adding a little water.
Step 2
The fresh coconut can be substituted with 25g desiccated coconut and 4 tbsp plain yoghurt. You will need to leave the chutney for ½ hour before using to allow the coconut to soften.
