The recipe

This Blueberry and Apple Smoothie is quick and easy to prepare, if the apple is stewed in advance. Using stewed apples as part of a breakfast is a good move for your health, according to followers of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian health system.  For those people who are familiar with the three main doshas (Kapha, Vata and Pitta), mind-body types recognised by and understood by this ancient system, this breakfast is a good option for all types, but if you have a slight Kapha imbalance use goat’s milk.

Ingredients

  • 50g blueberries
  • 85g stewed apple
  • 80g plain yoghurt
  • 125ml almond milk or goat’s milk
  • 1 tbsp hemp oil
  • a little water for a thinner consistency, as required

Method

Step 1

To stew the apples, peel, core and chop them roughly. Add them to a saucepan with a little water over a medium heat and cook until they are softened and smooth.

Step 2

Process all of the ingredients in a blender until smooth and serve.
