We love our food
The idea for producing recipes and blog reports on healthy, tasty international cuisine on our Cardamom Days Food website first dawned on us while we were away travelling for thirteen months in South Asia. Derek had been writing a weekly blog about our exploits and on returning to the UK in February 2014 he rewrote it and published it as an e-book on Amazon and called it Cardamom Days and which is featured on our sister site Cardamom Days Travel. We both really enjoy our food and as I am a keen cook I wanted to revisit a lot of the amazing dishes we ate while in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Although, on the face of it, there seem to be common themes in that part of the world, there is actually a lot of variety between regions and so when we returned home I started reading up on the those different cuisines and started cooking.
We decided to produce a series of cookery books, the first is called, you guessed it, Cardamom Days – Vegetarian Indian Recipes, which comprises some of our favourite dishes, all cooked in our own kitchen. Derek is a keen and accomplished photographer and so he photographs the dishes which I cook. He does a bit of the cooking as well, but his main interests, apart from eating the food, are photography, building websites and blogging. I’m not so good at photography and definitely not so good at the computer stuff, but I love to cook and research the ingredients and recipes and I am interested in their history. (What a team!)
Added to this I have always had an enthusiasm for food and health and I find all the topical and new ideas in that area fascinating. I do enjoy my food so I like to dabble and dip in and out of all the current food trends as well as hang on to some classics. It’s not all about faddy foods though. I believe it is best to have a varied diet and to be aware of what is and isn’t healthy eating and to have a balanced diet which keeps the body in good health and good balance. I also think it’s important to keep the mind happy and the occasional “almost naughty” treat is therefore essential, and will be included here as well.
This website is about good, tasty and healthy food, reflecting anything old, new and interesting which we come across and think we will enjoy cooking and eating. Also, with our interest in travel, there will be lots of recipes from all over the world. I can’t wait to get back to the kitchen and experience it all and am really looking forward to learning lots and creating some amazing dishes which I want to share with you.
